Not enjoying the Vistal...

I'm trying to locate the MAC address on a new VIAO and am having *no* luck. I checked the Device Manager and found the g adapter, but though I can get a ton of info about it, nada about the MAC address.

The only Mac related point is that I Installed Safari on it and this PC that I'm using.

What to do?

do you have a router that keeps stats of connected computers? I'm thinking that some routers might record the MAC address in their logs. maybe not, though.

good luck!

- Select "Run..." from the Start menu
- Type "cmd" in the resulting field
- Type in "ipconfig" in the DOS window that comes up.

(Can you get a DOS window in Vista?)

You need to add a switch to get the MAC address.

c:\> ipconfig /all

It should list the ethernet LAN adapter and then the WiFi adapter. It could be different if you are using a USB port for the network connection.

This is a tool I use on all the machines in our lab. Lots of information available and you can tailor it to display exactly what you need - even some things not easily obtainable via the usual Windows methods. I don't have ANY Vista machines though, so YMMV

OOPS! If you're using (S)Lotus Notes as a browser, maybe you'd be better off not clicking the link - crashed Notes on my machine. Works fine in FireFox though.

That is correct -- I knew I was forgetting something. Consequence of working 12 hour days.
