Got the itch to see a movie-- anything out there?
Posted by: h'

For some reason the holiday is making me feel like a big-screen outing . . .
Anything out there at the moment?
Absolutely not looking for anything with a holiday theme . . . not too keen on animation either.
Thanks . . .

Juno. But it's a feel-good movie. Are you in the mood to feel good?

Juno is supposed to be good. . .do you like musicals?

Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp?

H',

Charlie Wilson's War was pretty good. Definitely not good enough to deserve all of the award nominations it's received but enjoyable enough for an outing to the movies. If you have the chance, I definitely recommend American Gangster. It may still be showing at some theaters. Great movie! Far better than Charlie Wilson's War, IMO. Sweeny Todd looks good. The honey and I may see that over the weekend.

Haven't seen it, but I've heard "The Great Debaters" is quite good. Jurnee Smollett has grown up mighty fine (Google for her if you don't know who she is).

American Gangster is not my sort of movie at all so I skipped it, but everyone I know who saw it thought it was excellent. I'm hearing good things about Charlie Wilson's War as well.

If it was me, I'd go see Juno.

Last old local theatre has been rebuilt to multi-plex.
These tiny cages with a screen just are not the same.
More like an amusement park ride. (without the fun)

JDC,

I am Legend is good. If you know and love the story, you'll be disappointed in some respects. But, overall, it's good fun. Definitely worth a trip to the movies. American Gangster was far better, though.

I just saw Walk Hard. It was funny, but I could have waited for the DVD.

I enjoyed Sweeney Todd except for the gore. Seven throat slitings, i believe (may have lost count).

Awesome sets and a great tracking shot near the beginning.

No one's mentioned "No Country for Old Men" yet. Definitely my 2007 favorite. Although I have to second Juno. Superb.

Saw Sweeney Todd yesterday and it was good. Lots of blood, but the casting and acting was very good. Depp does a good job with the singing and Sacha Cohen (Borat) was excellent, as were all the supporting cast members.

Wow, funny how a movie rec thread will get three responses sometimes and 20 at others.
Thanks for the recommendations-- they seem pretty consistent; any others appreciated.

If you haven't seen Michael Clayton yet, it's really good--great acting, great story, amazing ending. Highest recommendation.

We saw "I am Legend" on Christmas Day. I like the movie. I thought it was very entertaining.

him carry me, and yet assure myself and others

I go to a movie about once a week and Sweeney Todd turned out to be my favorite movie of 2007.

It was my 2nd choice for a movie last weekend, but the timing was better so I went. The only exposure I had to Sweeney Todd before was the scene in Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl when they act it out at the Elementary School talent show.

I came home and bought the album on iTunes and will go see it again this weekend. The acting and music outweighed the blood for me. I was impressed by Johnny Depp. He is much better than the Pirates movies in my opinion.
