. . .hmmm. . .

I like J.J. Abrams but this isn't lookin too good. . .Tyler Perry? well you never know. . .

Tyler Perry Joins 'Star Trek' Cast
'Madea' star joins the likes of Chris Pine, Winona Ryder and Zachary Quinto in J.J. Abrams' cast

Media behemoth Tyler Perry is the latest actor to join the cast of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot, though not in his beloved Medea drag.

While The Hollywood Reporter says that Perry will "head the Starfleet Academy" in the franchise origin tale, it's unclear what specific character he'll be playing and if that character will literally be the dean/president/principal at Starfleet Academy or if that was just a turn of phrase of some sort.

Somewhat remarkably, Perry could now be the biggest name in the Paramount film, which began production in November.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto star as Young Captain Kirk and Young Spock, which other key Enterprise casting featuring Karl Urban as Young Bones, Zoe Saldana as Young Uhura, John Cho as Young Sulu, Simon Pegg as Young Scotty and Anton Yelchin as Young Chekov.

Recognizable actors in supporting roles include Eric Bana as the evil Nero, Winona Ryder as Spock's momma and Bruce Greenwood as original Enterprise captain Christopher Pike.

A wildly successfully playwright and performer, Perry finally earned the attention of the mainstream media with a string of hit films for Lionsgate, a list of low-budget winners including "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," "Madea's Family Reunion" and, most recently, "Why Did I Get Married." His next film is this spring's "Meet the Browns."

Tyler Perry a bigger name than Winona Ryder? Nopers. I've never heard of Tyler Perry. Excited about this film, though. Hope it's good.

I have never heard of Tyler Perry either, and I don't think I have been living in a cave (at least as far as I know).

Your Mom's Basement counts in the "Cave Like" category.

So, does this mean they've cast the first red shirt?

The guy in the red shirt transported down to the surface is always the first guy to get killed - at least in TOS.

For all three of us living in a cave, I don't recall seeing either of you two. Oh wait, he didn't say we all lived in the same cave.

While it's an impressive list of work, it surely doesn't scream of A-List Hollywood star that is going to come up in conversation in most homes. So, don't worry if you haven't heard of the guy.

It isn't that he isn't "A-List", he is.
The problem is that he is African American, and this forum has a predominately "White", or VanillaVillage as I like to call it, view on life.

While you're probably correct regarding the racial makeup of the forum, one surely doesn't need to be black to recognize someone of that race and their accomplishments.

All I'm saying is that if you polled randomly nationwide or in this "White" forum, a vast majority would know the name Will Smith or Denzel Washington. To suggest someone lives in a cave because they don't know Tyler Perry is just seems silly. I'm guessing SteveO is familiar with both Smith and washington.

A prime example of why you are in error.
The IMDB forums.
Go do some reading there, you'd be amazed!!
Pure blind hate.

I guess my cave is deeper then most as I've no idea who any of those people are besides Winona Ryder.

I unplugged our cable a few years ago and I must admit I don't miss popular culture all that much anymore.

As for the Star Trek movie they are forming, it seems rather like kicking a dead horse.

Only name I recognize is winona, too.

Fawning over every actor (and actor wannabe)on the boob tube adds nothing to my retirement fund.

Zachary Quinto is the biggest star as far as I'm concerned. Kind of a fun turnabout; famous Trek actors keep turning up in Heroes, so here we go.
I'm still dreading the plot. I'll probably go see the damn thing, but ready to pass 100 minutes brainlessly, with no expectations.

Since Gene's death, they've lost that magic touch...

All I ever really needed to know, I learned from watching Star Trek.
