TVGuide feature on DVD recorder will not record certain channels.

I have the Panasonic DMR-EH50S with the TV Guide On Screen feature and it behaves strangely when I have try to record programs on CBS. The program shows up in the TV Guide recording schedule but the recording does not start when programmed time arrives. For example, I have the unit scheduled to record CSI: at 8 PM Thursday but it does not begin recording when the clock shows 8 o'clock. If I then manually turn on the unit using the power button on the front, the unit will commence the recording. Obviously, this negates the whole timed recording scheme if I have to be there to start the recorder.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? Could it be the TV Guide is messing up or some sort of broadcast flag implementation. I do not have digital cable or a settop box. The recorder is hooked directly to the cable.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I know of a Pioneer DVR that had a similar problem that was avoided by simply ignoring the guide. Can you program it for date, time, channel, duration without using the guide?

Tried that. The program showed up along with the others in the TV Guide list of scheduled recordings. It even had the show title and description added. I also used the VCR+ feature to program the show. Same result.

I have not tried to shut of the guide feature altogether to see if it makes a difference but then again that defeats part of the convenience of the unit.

The TV Guide On Screen site was of little help. It did list a support number for Panasonic and it may be time to call. I might try to reinitialize the Guide setup first.

I have the exact same DVD recorder (DMR-EH50, I believe the S is for Silver, right?). The first unit was acting up, I think; it lost the TV Guide twice in the first week, and I recorded a few DVD-Rs that I could not play in my older Panasonic DVD player (which is supposed to play DVD-Rs). They played fine in my PowerBook though.

Anyway, the fact that it lost the TV Guide and I had to wait another 24 hours to download it again (24 hours with the unit OFF) made me exchange it. The new unit is flawless. Not a single time it lost the TV Guide, I had it since Thanksgiving. Also, the DVD-Rs play fine in the other Panasonic DVD player.

I usually record stuff from PBS, NBC and I think the wife has a show on ABC she records. I could try to help you, I will try to record some show on CBS and see if it works. PM with details, I will set it up for tomorrow night. Are you on the East Coast??? and BTW, are you a Physicist???

another random thoughts: make sure there is enough space on the hard drive. have you tried to record to DVD RAM instead? have you changes the recording quality? have you changed the frequency (REGULARLY instead of ONCE).

Also, make sure the show is indeed in the SCHEDULED list and not in FAVORITES list, I believe that if in favorites, it merely reminds you, but it does not record it.

Anyway, PM with details and I'll help you.
