And I'm not talking about editing videos, or humongous Photoshop edits. I mean in terms of making word processing, surfing, Finder operations, compressing MP3s, etc. faster.

Any data. FWIW, the Auguswt 2007 iMacs have the 300 version; the older ones have the 150....

If you're not using an SATA II controller AND a port multiplier, you will get no advantage from using SATA 300 (II) vs. SATA 150 (I).

The August 2007 iMacs do have the SATA II controller. I guess you'd have to drill a hole in the case to use a port multiplier....you could get faster backups, though!

Eh, no. The benchmarks show performance increases with SATAII with just a SATAII controller.

SATAII is faster overall, but with what you're doing the advantages are likely very minor.

Surprisingly, yes. SATA II drives are generally faster.

Whether you will be able to measure any difference on your Mac is an altogether different question.

Has anyone verified that SATA-II chipset Macs can use port multipliers?
And... do the Core 2 Duo Mac Minis have an upgraded SATA-II controller, or are they still using SATA 1.0?
