So, I guess we abused our smiley privileges

OK, I was one of the offenders. Is that why it says "smiling smiley" and "bouncing smiley" instead of the cute little yellow and purple guys showing up? I'm sorry. Maybe it will show up as a forum option, later. Kind of a, see or not to see, option. smiling bouncing smiley

Funny, he still shows up as his little bouncing self, in the preview.

Did I miss something? I haven't even got the chance to use any smilies. I feel so slighted.

Looks like you may have missed the boat Buckeye. Some of us, me included, went smilie nuts in a couple of threads. Actually, I think they were probably going to make it optional all along. We'll see if it shows up as an option later. It's not like we haven't been demanding enough with our "suggestions" after all.

I can always use this one :}, since it wasn't in the list anyway.

I thought they weren't showing because I had show images set to off.

No, I check that, too. I have images set to "on" and they still don't show. I think they are still working on things, so it will probably change. I just thought it was funny that someone would type "smiling smiley" until I figured out what was going on.

If all else fails, numerous cat pictures will do the trick.

There's nothing wrong with anyone's use of smileys. so far at least smiling smiley
What you are seeing is just me trying to get the search engine friendly mod working. For some reason it breaks the smileys.
Thanks

Hmm... did you know that if you copy a smiley from here, and paste it into TextEdit, it stays a graphic smiley?

I wuz trying to reverse engineer Incog's third one...

Now I guess I just have to go look at that list he posted!

This is why I don't like smileys:

(ok, ok, I got rid of them... I think I've made my point.)

And yes, not only does it beachball Safari, but it causes other browsers to lag, big time...

JUST SAY 'NO' TO SMILEYS

So FAR, the only people to do"that" are butt-pipes trying to prove a point about why they don't like Smiley's... smiling smiley
So knock it off... it beachballs my Safari.

Actually, I think the post with all of those smileys and the thumbs is pretty interesting to look at. Probably uses a bunch of bandwidth, but it looks cool. Thanks PeterB, you've made me a believer in keeping them.smiling smiley

Hey PeterB,
Remember, you can go back and edit that thing, please. I get the point, but take about half of them away, OK?

Yeah, that hung my Safari for over a minute, too, PeterB. Thanks ever so much. winking smiley

I am one of those who could completely do without the graphic smilies, and never miss them a bit, FWIW.

One note, this is just my personal opinion, but I feel it would be considerate for those of you who use pictures or text sigs (such as myself) to think about limiting their use to once on each thread. It seems that would be enough to get the point across. It appears kind of redundant to scroll down a thread and see the same picture, quote, or whatever 6 or more times. Just my opinion, mind you.

Obviously I am too. Also there is just something so cool about ASCII smilies.

Yes, I am in partial agreement with you-- I haven't put a sig on here for that exact reason. I also cannot stand certain of the animated sigs, so have set my Camino prefs to animate only once. Sorry rgG, but that means the cat only blinks once.

Boo Boo is crushed.

BTW, I try to not post my sig on every post, but with it set as the default and my lack of short term memory, I often forget to uncheck before I post. I'll try to do better.
