Now they're talking about ways to leave a secured camera on-site for some hard-to-reach locations, and using a Verizon card and router out in the field so that an editor back here can edit and post images "as they are taken." RC-controlled cars ... editors remotely hitting the shutter ... and so on.
I too think that a camcorder could eventually replace the stills at some point. Either way the role of the photog will definitely change. They've already begun training reporters with point-and-shoots. Not many of these reach publication, for obvious reasons.
