weasels rip my flesh!

not really, but someone, meece, rat, squirrel, mastodon or presidential candidate crawled into my engine and snacked on some key wire what make my car run.
can't wait to see the bill.
In the meantime, has anyone else experienced this and have any ideas for prevention? Other then a full body condom or weapons of meecie destruction.

OBTW, I heard Zappa on commercial NYC FM yesterday. Dunno what song, but I recognized his sound immediately. Musta been something post '75.
But I was shocked.

Fortunately the rat that decided to call my last car home didn't do any serious damage, but he did try to nest in the filter of the cabin air filtration system. Geez, I didn't even know it had one, let alone how much it costs to replace it. This is actually more common than we think, and I don't know of a way to keep them out if the car is parked outside. Somehow putting a mouse trap in the engine compartment doesn't sound very practical.

At least your critter and mine stayed on the outside of the car. There was some poor guy around here who had to buy his wife a new car after they discovered a rat had been living under the driver's seat of their Volvo station wagon. She refused to ever get in the car again after learning about that. And, to add further insult, the car needed $3,000 worth of repairs to the electrical system before he could get rid of it.

I don't own a car, but as it happens one of my co-workers had a rat chew up her car's wiring this very week. One of her neighbors had the same problem a couple of years ago. I guess it is one of the joys of urban living.

I knew about Dale, but I didn't think she was small enough or desperate enough to chew my engine wires.

Happens in the country more frequently to tractors and such. We had a mouse living in the intake filter of my wife's van. I only discovered it because I pulled the filter to replace it, and saw the little guy running for his life out of the engine compartments. I think one of the cats got him later.

And not just mice- a friend of ours has a cat named "Bumper". This stray came home with her one day. You guessed it- she had gone to sleep up in the bumper of her SUV, and stayed in there the whole 20 miles of highway home.

my old room mate had a family of mice move into the foam in the back seat of his Cordoba in the middle of Seattle. It happens in the middle of big cities too.

I had a chipmunk store about a dozen acorns in a tight spot along side the engine block in my car. Of course, when the engine got hot enough, the acorns started to char and smoke. Nasty smell, and freaked out everyone in the car on the way to my son's birthday party. Luckily I figured out the problem before dropping off the car for service.
