My 2GB cards seem so wimpy now and they were da bomb just a year and a half ago.

unless your camera has a video mode, why in the hell do you need a 32 gig card?

I can see some of the mpeg4 portable DVRs for security covert video aplications might need something like this, but us people? Only an idiot would trust his/hers entire trip of a lifetime on a single solid state memory card. I carry about half a dozen CF cards and scatter the stuff across them, and transfer the images to a laptop ASAP, and leave them on the card until I need the card again.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure if I need that sort of storage. I use a couple of 1gig cards in my cameras now and never felt I needed more. I don't use the camera for storage, I always have my iBook with me, so I move the files over to work on them anyway. 'Course, I still work like I used to with film and Polaroid proofs, making sure I've good what I need before I move on.
But what do I know.

The SD card is the only way to boost internal storage on my XO Laptop. I know that it will handle 16GB cards, but I'm not sure about 32 GB yet.

Bingo! All those new AVCHD cams. A 32GB card will bring them into the world of practical plus camcorder makers can loosen up on the compression a bit. It's also a nice alternative to a portable HD.

Yeah, it makes sense for video, I hadn't thought of that.

One lady I work with takes maybe 50 pictures a day.. every day..
And she NEVER, repeat, NEVER, deletes her SD cards.

So, yes.. she buys new cards when they're full.
Just like film.

She's the kind of idiot, uh, I mean "user" that can get good use out of extra-huge capacity cards.


I have yet to fill up a 512mb without having PLENTY of oppurtunity to empty it to my computer, burn a CD, etc.

I find myself taking more and more video using my Canon SD800IS digicam. When I bought the camera I never dreamed I would even use the video feature. I have a miniDV camcorder but it stays in the drawer, whereas I almost always have my camera with me and use it for all sorts of things (skiing, the air races, kids doing stupid stuff, etc.). My 2GB card fills up pretty quick with the mix of photos and videos I put on there.

If it was fast enough, and cheap enough, I'd use one for shooting gymnastics meets. I really have to time switching out cards so I don't miss some shots.

davester, i do that all of the time. I love to use the little cam to take movies that are quite decent actually. well, at least in this era of diminished expectations and YouTube.

as for utility, gee, wouldn't it be nice if a certain computer (er, "lifestyle" company) would make their products expandable with the use of flash memory. just a wild, crazy thought.

I don't know- I could use a bigger card than the 4MB card I have on my Quicktake 200. Those 5V cards are impossible to find.

I went through several cards at a Ducks game this summer, but not quite 323GB's LOL.
