Big HDD Price Trend: 750 GB HDs drop as much as 68% since last year

Fellow members taking advantage of this trend?

Or bought your big HDs last year, wish you'd waited until this year?

Or wondering if even buying now risks losing even greater savings if you wait six months?

I'm curious what accounts for this sharp trend, and how far it'll continue?

The 1 TB price external is a little misleading since it is 2ea 500GB

"The 1 TB price external is a little misleading since it is 2ea 500GB"

I agree...the article says that, in a disclaimer...

the thing about internal/external can be a bit confusing too...

..but the price drops are significant, even with those considerations...

The external/internal HDD prices are interesting too because I managed to get a single-drive external 1TB for $220 from buy.com a couple weeks ago... so shouldn't the internal price ALSO be $220? I mean, it's trivial to take this drive out of the enclosure and put it in a computer . Or is it because that was a special price no longer available, and *generally* 1TB drives start at $270?

Sometimes I just think dealmac is a little full of it, like when they tell you that something that costs over $2-300 is the lowest price since yesterday when it was $1 more .E.g. "This HDTV is $1497 with free shipping. That's $2 less than the last time we listed this item." Like anyone was waiting for that additional $2 drop!

Sometimes I like pricewatch.com.

Yeah, I've been a little miffed that bare drives are going for more than externals too.
Sucks 'cuz once you crask the enclosure you've got no warranty on nothing.
