. . .they had exclusive rights to the Dutch footage (and this isn't the same as the national enquirerer link that was posted last time).

Holloway Suspect: 'I Know What Happened'
Dutch Student Said Natalee Holloway's Body Was Dumped in the Ocean

. . ."I know what happened to that girl," van der Sloot announced during 20 hours of private conversations secretly recorded by crime reporter Peter R. de Vries.

Her body, van der Sloot said, had been dumped in the ocean by a friend with a boat.

"We're on the beach," he said on the recordings, according to the Dutch TV show. "Suddenly, she wasn't moving any more.". . .

Yeah... what the punk didn't say was "well, we were worried that since she died after we shared drugs with her, and left our "DNA" all over her.. that we'd be suspects.. so we dumped her body".

What a sociopath.

Or a fairly typical male teenager.

THe "typical male teenager" would have cracked under more than two years of scrutiny and interrogation....
A sociopath wouldn't.

See the distinction?

I'm with Paul F. Now of course he claims he was just joking around with the friend, and did not really do it. That is just as revealing of his mindset as anything that has come out so far.

Typical male teenagers have some semblance of a conscience.

The kid was definitely cold, cold, cold. Spoiled beyond belief, grandiose and a liar. I do see a lot of teenagers like him. Their parents bail them out of every trouble, and what you end up with is this kind of kid.

Did she die from alcohol poisoning? Did he strangle her? Other drugs?

But the guy coaxing him on and befriending him, should not have used drugs. He is a very questionable person himself. I have a feeling a judge will not like this tactic.

Isn't his father in training to be a judge?

So what? Desperately wanting to not get caught overrides conscience for most teens.

Yeah, but there was no hint of desperation whatsoever in any of the footage, just the coldness. Most teens will eventually get caught out BECAUSE their desperation comes to the surface, however they may try to hide it.

Didn't he refer to her as a b*tch a few times on this video?

My first thought when this happened and he was covered by the media was that he needed a good beating.

Now I think he needs a good, prolonged beating.

JoeM, you may be right. Possibly the only way they would ever get anything like truth out of him is to sit him down in an interrogation room and give him two choices; talk to us here or go through that door where her relatives are waiting and we are not watching. Unfortunately that style of interrogation can't be used these days.

OK, what if she died of over dose, or heard attack, or who knows what else and the boys panicked and dumped the body? They are not guilty of killing her, per se, but obstruction of justice, laying, a bunch of other stuff (I am not a lawyer). On the other hand, I could imagine they killed her. I just don't know what happened and I am not sure fi we'll ever find out. BTW: I have not seen the video.

What I do know is that my kids will not go to parties with strangers, that is for sure. We'll see how that goes in about 14-16 year from now. smiling smiley

I think kids are going to Aruba, Cancun and out of the US unsupervised at much too young an age. They could not afford to do it if parents did not pay for it.

The troubles they can get themselves into, outweigh the benefits. Even senior trips to Florida are out of control. I would make my kid work and not allow this stuff until I was no longer supporting them or 21. I would not pay for them to go abroad unless they were older.

When I saw this, my first thought was "how awful" ... and then my later thoughts were, "suppose he had been truthful from the outset" ... I think that's a big part of the problem in this case; he has now lied so many times that you don't know what the truth is. If he had been truthful from the beginning... say she had passed out and died from alcohol overdose... he would likely not be in the spot he's in now.

Well we know he lied about who he said dumped her body.

He is probably hiding something serious. Everything on the beach where they were was so close to the pay phone...a normal person would run there and call 911, or run screaming into the hotel calling for help.

I wasn't all that psyched about moving to Birmingham initially.

But one thing I found admirable about the place: the local supermarket in Mountain Brook put up a sign that said, "If you wish to buy the National Enquirer, please see Mr. Jones at the service desk" so that Mrs. Holloway wouldn't have to look at covers featuring her daughter when buying groceries.

Very thoughtful.

He's had a long time to get over the kind of initial panic or desperation that could have led to really dumb, self-serving decisions. Pretty hard to sustain that for years.

I'm not defending him, just objecting to the assertion that he is a sociopath. I can remember being a teenager, doing stupid, impulsive, or risky things, and trying to weasel out of them if I got caught. Unfortunately, It's pretty typical behavior for teenagers, regardless of gender.

If I'd been that girl's mom, I don't think I'd have let her go on that trip.
