Buy Super Duper. It is worth it.

PS new version came out today and it is supposed to have many worthwhile upgrades.

I'm just learning how to use SuperDuper, so it's my understanding that to do a bootable backup, select the source volume, select the destination volume, select backup all files, then run the program. Am I right?

I BOUGHT IT - VERSION 2.5. Seems pretty clear cut. Didn't realize it'd be so easy lol.

I don't think you needed to buy it to make a bootable backup-- the demo version just won't do scheduling I think.

Shhhhhh... He's supporting a good developer of Mac software. That's always a good thing.

Launch Disk Utility. Go to the Restore tab. Drag the icon of the source disk to the Source field. Drag the icon of the Destination disk to the Destination field. Press the Restore button.

I've used Disk Utility, CCC and SuperDuper, each hundreds of times to make bootable clones. I still prefer SD for some reason.

LaCie's free Silverkeeper will make a bootable backup. I use it.

Note that it works only if you back up to a newly formatted (erased) drive. Be sure the backup drive is set to use permissions not to ignore them.
