Any chance of losing itunes with upgrade? Can I upgrade?

Like all my bling my iPod is old. 2nd gen. iTunes 6 on computer. Not loading complete playlist songs to iPod. Not loading many in fact to iPod. The old dual USB iBook G3 with 10.2.8.

Says I need update from updater page to load some songs. Which iTunes version should I use and is there any chance of losing songs on computer? Cannot upgrade OS, may be a deal breaker?

Please no remarks about my all around obsolescence. I know. I know.

Looks like 10.2.8 system prevents upgrade. Any ways around?

First, you should backup your library to either DVD's or an external drive. Then you can try anything with confidence. If I remember correctly, iTunes iPod interface took a leap forward from 6 to 7. IMHO it would be well worth it to upgrade even if it meant buying and installing Tiger.

Even if you had all modern stuff, there's ALWAYS a chance that stuff will get scotched by an update, so backup your iTunes folder before you do an upgrade.

That having been said, I have done several updates from old clients and haven't seen any problems.

Of course I would have had I not backed up first...

If this is your issue, and what you have should be allowing this, then what good is upgrading anything going to do you? If you have a bug, squash it, don't paint over it. What happens if you upgraded to the latest iTunes and then a month later you then run into problems? Quit listening to music?

Even the first generation 3oo MHz G3 iBook can run OSX 10.3.9 - maybe it's time to upgrade. OSX 10.3 will provide better performance than 10.2.x.

What's all this talk about loose software? If it's all bytes, wouldn't it be pretty tight?
