I have a question about the TOS (to which I did just agree). There's a part in it about commercial activity. I wonder how this affects:
1) Sales of things which take place on this forum-- either through people contacting each other informally for buy/sell/trade, or if the OWC folks eventually decide to put up a section specifically for buy/sell/swap/freebies
2) Profits from forum-related posting, e.g., use of the forum as a source of Mac info, for which one would normally have to pay (e.g., Macfixit).

First off- the forums TOS were generated outside of OWC and actually protect [price.com] as well as advertisers, sponsors, etc.
On the commercial thing - just effectively to protect against the forum turning into a advertisers free mart. Forums aren't here so people can put up their own self serving affiliate links.
All that said - the ebay, craigslist stuff and other stuff that's been posted thus far hasn't raised any flags or concerns. The policy was written for the longer term. The interpretation of #2 above really is off a bit there.

LOL Larry, you need to be able to turn off hotlinking... and while we're at it, an option to turn off smileys...
I wasn't so much concerned about item #1, as I am item #2. Turning the forum into a pay-for-access (not suggesting you would do that now, but could happen down the line) is unfair, considering that it is the users who have contributed toward making it what it is. Also, there are copyright issues with restricting access to things which are initially in the public domain (such as an open-access forum) ... which is why what Macfixit did was pretty awful. Again, not saying you would do this now, but there is always a temptation to do that in future. When Macfixit went private, there were a LOT of angry people out there...

So, before any *warning* from OWC or Price.com ( somebody clue me in here . . . how the hell is Price.com connected to this??????) we HAVE to agree to these terms of service? Before any questions about what this means????
