Joey Cheek....seems like a nice guy!

I watched him win his first gold medal and his expression and mannerisms communicated pure joy and an "I can't believe I won" attitude. He struck me as unique and humble, unlike some of the "I'm Number 1" types out there. Now he's decided to give ALL of his winnings away to charity and to pressure his sponsors to do the same. What a guy!

This is not to say there aren't other olympians with great attitudes. I especially liked watching the snowboarders (US and others), who all seemed like they were just out there to have fun snowboarding...a very happy group.

They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Many of the speed skaters train here in SLC because it is one of the fastest tracks in the world. Many of them including Cheek and Para have been pretty good people to have around.

1 clue to that would be that he doesn't drink while performing in the Olympics. . .like some other potential Olympians. ..who shall not be named, non?

You mean he doesn't participate in Miller time on a nightly basis?

remember that swimmer. ..I think it was in the last Winter Olympics who seemed to be pure as the driven snow. . .and said to be the next Mark Spitz.

then afterwards, I think he was charged with DUI. . .

Working in the media if I have learned anything is that the public never really knows any of these athletes.

I think that if you're a swimmer in the Winter Olympics, then drinking is probably required.

missus e is calling him "Joey Cheeks". mick e is not sure why - his face seems to be rugged and angular.
