If you have Quicktime Pro, right click on podcast, reveal in Finder. Right click on podcast in Finder and select open with Quicktime. Select part you want and then 'trim to selection'. Save.

Audacity. Free, and there's a bit of a learning curve. Shows you the waveform. You walk through it, listen, cut out the part you want, paste it into a new file and save it. Nothing in audio editing is instantaneous, but it works.

If you just want to hear a piece then go into info on the track and set start and stop times.

If you want to save the memory space you can use iTunes to reencode the track and it will just do the time from start to stop ( [www.macosxhints.com] ).

A real audio editor is better (MP3Trimmer, Fission, etc) if you are doing this more than once.
