A "new music" thread - whatcha listenin' to?
Posted by: mrbigstuff

I'll have to start since asking the question:
The Arctic Monkeys - only heard radio stuff and finally got Favourite Worst Nightmare from the library and it's great, I'm going to buy it.
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife and their earlier stuff
Black Keys (their Magic Potiion of bluesy '60s-ish tunes is good).

Also, on the jazz front, Charlie Haden and Stefano Battaglia have been in my CD player for some time. Good stuff.

Hurts like a bastid...

A local station here in Little Rock, Magic 105FM, is going off the air and the main guy there is moving to a new station. He's basically been given carte blanche to do what he wants so he's been playing nothing but The Beatles (and various later songs by the four after they went solo) for days now. I haven't changed the station since he started, so that's what I've been listening to. Haven't even launched iTunes in days.

Ray Benson was on Letterman as a guest with the band....So I am listening to "Asleep At The Wheel".

They have a new CD out...Reinventing the Wheel. I wonder if it is good.

I used to hang out at this casual little, old, shotgun Bar, called "Antlers", in downtown Lafayette, LA. They had about 12 seats at the bar, a pool table and a 15 ' x 15' dance floor.

They would write the name of the band on a Chalkboard by the bar. I remember being quite tipsy, and turning to my friend and saying "What the hell is the name of this band?".

Boy were we in for a great surprise.

I'm steadily working through my vinyl putting it onto the computer so I can listen on my iPod. Just finished listening to Spirit - Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus and before that it was Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left.

AOL radio (what itunes radio should be)

3 stations, kinda switching

Right now: Eclectic > Melancholia > just heard

Cure, Apart

6th & Momus, As you turn [phobos.apple.com]

the late Elliot smith, No name no 5 [phobos.apple.com]

and now billy bragg, sulk [phobos.apple.com]

coming up is the Eels, Trouble with Sweeney and Smithereens

-- this is my new favorite station =)

and Classic Rock or 80's alternative

if you have never tried AOL radio, its worth some time checking out (cant stand the esurance commercials about every 30 minutes, but no biggy)

i prefer the stand alone player, but you can also listen through their web site

I've been walking to work, which gives me about half an hour to listen each way. Despite the street noise, having the iPod along really adds to the whole walk experience.

Most recent walking music:

The Waterboys, a playlist pulled from 3 or 4 CDs
Cesaria Evora, another compilation from several CDs; mostly Cabo Verde.
Some Bobby Bland tracks bought from iTMS

Unfortunately, this part of NYC is too noisy for classical.

One of our local radio stations (KINK FM, Portland) puts out a compilation CD every September of live numbers that were performed in their studios. I have been trying to collect them all and now have 8 out of 10 of them. They are playing in a random playlist on my computer right now. All kinds of good stuff.
