Which expansion phones are the same but have different brand names?

I was looking at expansion phones for the vtech 5.8s that I got at Staples for a steal the other day. They were close outs, so they didn't have the expansion phones, just the base stations. Anyway, while at the Office Depot today, I see two other brands of expansion phones that look like they are the same as the vtech, but they are a different brand, ATT & GE.

I'm sure phones are like everything else and many are identical except for the packaging and a few cosmetic differences. Is there a site that will give me the crossover makes and models? I did a Google, but came up dry. I just don't know exactly what to search for.

I seem to recall reading a thread about some Uniden's being the same as a Panasonic or something, so there must be a way to tell if it's just a Ford dressed up in Lincoln clothing. Any help will be appreciated.

yeah I found out that the radioshack phones were basically uniden rebadges @ the deal site (whose name shall not be mentioned)

It would be nice not just for phones but other electronic stuff. . .

I know that for plasmas and lcd some "lower" brands use the same screens as the "higher" brand tvs

I guess if I find one that I'm pretty sure of, I could buy it and try it, as long as the store is one that is good about returns and exchanges. I really hate taking things back, though.

I think Vtech makes AT&T phones, at least they used to.

Stavs,
That's what I thought, too. I wish I could find a site to confirm that and give me the crossovers. I could tell from not only the phones but the packaging.

Best thing to do is look at the phones and the button layout. It should give you a close idea. Another alternative is to check consumer reports...they will tell you who makes what.

I did a little more research and it seems that vtech does make ATT phones. From what I read, there may be slight differences, with features. I guess the only way to really test my theory would be to buy it and try it. If I find one that I think will work on clearance, I may give it a shot.

I'm really happy with the RS/Uniden phones posted over at dealmac.

I'll add two handsets, and should be set.

That line will also use a handset that has BT so you can use your BT headset. That would be handy.
