Lovin' my PS3!
Posted by: Stavs

I finally decided to play a PS3 game on my PS3. I bought it mostly to play my PS2 games and watch Blu Ray. I picked up Conan for it abd I absolutely love this game. Its very simple and mindless....basically you just hack and slash and watch the gore. To top it off, there is gratuitous nudity in the game as well. What more could you ask for?

Nothing.

Maybe a cheaper PS3, but that's a quibble.

Well, perhaps folding@home.

You can partition the hard drive and install linux on it. There is also a way to rip blu-ray movies to the hard drive using linux. Haven't tried it, so I don't know how well it works.

Also, check out Eyeconnect.

Stavs, how is the quality of the BRD player?

I heard a podcast discussion that touched on it with two votes from the hosts- one loved it, the other, not so much. The latter was not an X-Box fan, and it might have been using a game controller that put him off.

What say you?

Its not bad. I have the SOny Blu Ray remote for dvd, so it works just fine. Only thing I dont like is that it is Bluetooth, so it does not work with my Harmony 880. If it was IR, that would be sweet, but I can live with it. The quality is great.

I guess I can sum it up by saying that I am selling my Oppo 970HD dvd player and my Panny XP-30 as the PS3 is more than sufficient until I get a SA Blu Ray Player.

Not a gamer myself but have come across some great games, Warhawk is my favorite, basically an online multiplayer game but can also be played over a LAN. Just picked up the new Ratchet and Clank which has stunning visuals, arguably the best yet on the PS3.

There are some great cheap arcade games to be had too, picked up quite a few in the last year but most notably High Velocity Bowling, Flow, Super Stardust HD and Snakeball are worth the download from the PSN store.

There is a few options, you can copy Video from an external drive to the PS3 or with MediaLink installed you can copy video directly from a shared folder on your Mac.

Dunno about that, lol. The only game the mrs loves is High Velocity Bowling. It is wii like in that you hold the sixaxis like a bowling ball and can adjust spin etc by a flick of the wrist, fun for all the family.

As for R&C, the graphics are on a par with Pixar (almost), it's like watching an animated movie, our kid has only got to level 3 so far but he really is liking it... not surprising since I had got him into Sonic on the PS2 and while Sonic became more convoluted and annoying with each subsequent version R&C has kept the basic idea behind it's success and beefed up the sound and vision. Easy to get your head round the controls initially but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

I got it for $40 and think that I got a good deal.
