FU: Possible Fix for Intel Macs with Wireless Issues

Following up to this thread on Intel Mac (MB/MBPs, iMacs, etc.) wireless issues with late Tiger updates and Leopard: [forums.macresource.com]

Some folks are apparently finding some success with this macrumors thread, not sure if the fix will hold but worth a shot for those of you pulling your hair out:

[forums.macrumors.com]

Some others on Apple's boards have said that setting up a ping for your Mac to ping your router every 15 seconds or so via iStumbler or another similar app seems to help as well. You can probably search Apple's boards and find this pretty quick.

Hope this helps some folks.

Thanks. I've got a MacBook 10.5.2 user whose machine can never reliably find her router, regardless of settings anywhere in the Mac or the router. I told her to buy a new router --- but hang onto the receipt --- because we've now gotta start eliminating variables we can control. It'll be interesting (in the Chinese-proverbial sense) to see what happens.

Deck -- some people are saying that Apple reps have told them to use Apple routers and they won't have this problem. Also, many people are reporting the problem while on battery so it doesn't seem to affect ac connections as much. FWIW...

Please let me know if you find a solution that works for her. I'd be interested to learn it as well. PM me if you can.

Will do.

Could be a few weeks until I get over there to help her. She's found a few workarounds to keep her going, mostly, involving rebooting the router and/or the Mac and/or manually selecting her network here and there.

She'll call me when none of that works after an hour ... and then have me come over when she's tired of futzing with it completely.

The thing is though, that she bought her MacBook with it running Tiger and had problems. So I'm hopeful the router she bought (admittedly, used) is defective.

Which version of Tiger? 10.4.9 is supposed to be fine. But 10.4.10 and .11 have similar--if not the same--wireless problems too.
