Do you like two-finger scrolling?
Posted by: rgG
Date: March 11, 2008 01:02PM
I must say, I am not a big fan. I use my own version with "tap" enabled I just tap and hold the scroll bar and I find that to be much smoother. Any tricks to the two-finger scroll?

Put it this way: when I forget I'm using my old PBG4 I howl in pain with a loud D'oh! after attempting a two-finger scroll. I love two finger scrolling, I love multi-touch on my iPhone, and I can't wait for the day I get a multi-touch MBP, but that day is at least 6-9 months away.

..was apparently *not* what you wanted to know, rg.

Ditto Chupa Chupa.

I love it, but you really don't realize how great it is until you don't have it.

I took to it pretty quickly. I use the middle and whatever that one is between that and pinky.

Just can't live without. I hate it when I use my wife's iBook and I forget. I didn't notice before but I seem to use the middle two fingers too.

I also like to tease uninformed Windows users who complain about not having a right button to click. I quickly click with two fingers so they miss it and say see, it does to have a right click. Then I tell them "you must be doing it wrong". Then I watch their jaw drop when I open Windows running in Parallels from the dock and just drag files back an forth.

another vote for absolutely loving it. same as deckeda - middle and ring finger to scroll and pointer finger to move the mouse and click. I too hate working on the work peecee, it has one of those areas on the right hand side of the trackpad that will scroll vertically, but it's annoying to have to move your finger over there.

There are two utilities which offer two finger scrolling on older Mac portable trackpads, iScroll2 and SideTrack. The former is free and the latter has a small fee. Read from the linked post on down for a little info regarding iScroll2.

OK, it is just me. I will try to get used to it, but I think I got so accustomed to doing it the other way on the iBook that it will take some adjusting. I just haven't gotten smooth yet. smiling smiley

I LOVE it too - stinks when I'm using the wife's dell and have to put my finger in that little side section to scroll. Seems very natural to me - I also use the middle finger and that other one by the pinky too.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! Makes browsing docs and the net so much better on the mac.

Channeling RacerX today, huh? smiling smiley

if you use a trackpad with 2 fingers, aren't you ignoring the little nubbin in the center (of the older laptop keyboards)

I hear the nubbin gets faster results.....

Love Sidetrack on all my iBooks.

I have the right side and bottom as the scroll areas and the upper left corner as a right click. Works great! I will use it on my mac book pro when it arrives.

Two finger scrolling is great at first, but after a while you can only get a response by using three or four fingers.
