Yahoo News: 10 Reason to Buy Windows Vista (5 or More sound like Mac OS X)

It gets funnier every time I read it. Look over this article and see how many things in the new Windows Vista are already in Mac OS X. Seems like Apple is Microsoft's R&D department.

[news.yahoo.com]

My favorite is part of Reason 1:

Perhaps most crucial (and least sexy) is the long-overdue User Account Protection, which invokes administrator privileges as needed, such as during driver updates or software installations. UAP makes it much more convenient for users to operate Vista with limited rights (meaning the system won't let them do certain things, like load software, without clearance from an administrator). This in turn limits the ability of malware to hose your system.

Sad that we are only 3-5% of the Market....

The only reason I want to buy it is to load it on a Intel Mac and finnally be able to say I game on my Mac.

Wonder how much memory and fast a processor that's going to take 5 years from now when the bloatware really gets released.

And hey - give it a few months, the horsepower is there to do gaming on the new Intel Macs under OS X. The admittedly bloated Universal Binary Unreal Tournament runs impressively - just wait till new games written staight up with Intel support for Mac come about. And should be more of them as the coversion from the PC versions ought be a lot simpler. Won't surprise me to see games that are only for the Intel based Macs.

We'll see.... has any one gotten a beta of Vista to boot on an intel iMac? I know you need Vista to even have a shot due to the EFI deal....

I dunno Larry. I have been hearing "Just wait until..." since we switched to the power PC chip. First it was "just wait until all the software is native PPC", then it was "Just wait until Copland (OS 8) comes out", Then it was wait for native software again after OS X, then it was wait until the G4 hits 1 GHz, then it was wait for the 64-bit native OS X, then it was wait until the G5 is at 3 GHz.

Noe it's deja vu all over again with the Inteli-Mac. Don't get me wrong. All of these advances (except OS 8-lol, and 3 GHz G5s) have resulted in speed increases, but never the "ten times faster than a PC!" pipe-dreams.

One of my favorite comments that was posted about their 'new' interface Aero: "Yep, that Blue Screen of Death will look better than ever!"

lol...funny; however, I'm sure there won't be much, if any crashing. MS has actually done a good job with XP and protected memory...I'm sure Vista will be even more solid. They are getting some things right, but obviously are behind in OSX. It should be a nice upgrade from XP.

I agree with Lux about the "just wait" stuff.

That said, the list of ten exciting features is a real box of Sominex. The "bidirectional software firewall that monitors inbound and outbound traffic to Windows Services Hardening" sounds like a long series of nightmares waiting to happen.

The new look is still horribly microsoft ugly.

New IE, better WMP, is that all they've got?
