Why does Turbotax require OX 10.4?
Posted by: space-time

It runs on Windows 2000, but it will not run on OS X 10.3? what's up with that?

I am trying to help a someone who bought Turbotax and she's running 10.3.9. Does she really need to upgrade to 10.4 or is there a workaround?

FWIW: I have not tried it myself, perhaps it runs just fine in 10.3? did anyone try it? This person is remote and I cannot go there to try to install it myself.

Thanks all.

It's starting to bug me, too. I don't remember being forced to upgrade constantly back in the day. It seems like now, any little teeny thing needs the latest and the greatest.

What's the advantage of buying TT instead of just using the online software?

I don't know, I myself used TaxAct.com for the past 3-4 years with good results. I think this lady bought already the software, so she would like to use it now rather than pay for the online version.

Also, maybe for the online version you pay for each return you file, but with the TT software (download or CD-ROM) you can file as many returns as you want? Maybe you can do the whole family without additional cost??? I never use it so I don't know.

As a side note, for the past few years there were a few deals where you could download either TurboTax or TaxCut for free, I have not seen any such deals this year.

I had this exact problem with a client. Trying to launch TurboTax 2007 ona 10.3.9 iMac G4 800 Mhz results in the Turbo Tax just not launching (as if you didn't double click on it at all).

I prefer not to say how I solved his problem. Let's just say I fixed the problem, and then STRONGLY encouraged him to buy either a copy of Tiger, or a new Mac with his tax refund and/or Economic Stimulus Act check.

I might have encouraged him to buy Leopard, but his iMac doesn't meet the minimum Specs... apparently it is 67Mhz short of the bar?!?!?

I see no reason why this IS necessary, but apparently, it is.

Why, because it is from Intuit. That explains 90% of all issues connected to Intuit software and use on a Mac. Read all the complaints about Quicken and lack of features compared to the PC version. In my case it bothered me just a little because that might mean next year they could require 10.5 for TurboTax. But since I have used it for years and already am running 10.4, I bought it yet another time.
