Oh, the HORROR!

My S/O's 500MHz iBook got a vertical crack on the right front corner of the bottom casing! Functionally, the iBook works fine still. But it looks like the crack is spreading further onto the flat surface. Is there anything could be done besides replacement? Is it even worth paying for a replacement? TiA

You should be able to find the lower portion on ebay for a decent price. I would definitly fix it ASAP before it affects something internally. It isn't worth taking it to a shop to have it fixed, it will run you more than a couple hundred dollars. If you are not up to the challenge sell it as is on ebay or LEMswap or Macswap.

What about using Superglue to close the crack? Of course you wouldn't want to put so much there that it flowed into the machine. That should keep the crack from growing.

another use for duct tape

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".

With all the bad logic boards finding a lower case should be easy.
