I just (two weeks ago) upgraded my laptop HD to a 250 GB WD from OWC, shortly after a mild price drop for HDs. I just checked their site again and the price is now $30 cheaper than what I paid just a couple of weeks ago. These prices are simply plummeting (same for flash memory). I'm wondering if OWC has any sort of price protection for this. Does anybody know?

was that ATA/IDE or SATA? I have an 160 GB ATA/IDE HD waiting to be installed in the trusty PB G4 (to replace the OEM 80 GB) and if I go though the exercise, maybe I should shoot for a 250 GB? Not sure what I am gonna put there though... maybe porn (don't tell my wife! LOL)

Mine is an ATA/IDE in a PB G4. Check out the OWC prices now. It's hardly worth it to get anything less than a 250, and definitely nothing less than a 160.

I already have a 160 GB Seagate ATA that I got for 28 bucks (new sealed from Best Buy). Not sure if I want to upgrade to 250. Unless I can find a 250 for a similar price (40 bucks)

Why don't I ever find deals like that? The only ones I ever find are Dell deals that subsequently get cancelled (although I did get in on that m$ office BFD deal.

20% a might suggest a freefall if it's falling freely, continuing to decline at the same pace week after week. Though spinning, spiraling toward the ground are optional phrases to include if we look next week and see falling prices have continued uninterrupted, then it's a freefall. Then we can only hope the parachutes open.

The chicken little analogy was meant with humor, but whether it's a good thing or not depends on where you stand. If you're looking to purchase, it's good news. If you've already purchased, it's bad news, confronting buyer's remorse. I just spent a bunch of $ on HDs, so I'm invested in prices not falling TOO fast, myself.

hard drive prices ARE falling right now. 500GB hard drives are now below $95.

Not sure how long this will last.

It's about time. 500GB drives have been stuck around $100 for nearly a year now.
