Impressive from a design standpoint. Seems to somewhat compromises the look of seating.

I'm not a "guy" but I can see it in a minimal apt or kids room painted with flowers and stuff. The chair does look a bit uncomfy but you can just use the other stuff. Beats the bricks and one by 12s we used in college.

looks like double the prices of ikea but will start to wobble as those joints break in. cool ideas but i that stuff will be garbage in 6 months tops if you use it for everyday living.

Nice if you keep your furniture in your suitcase or the trunk of your car 95% of the time.

mstudio: now you're talkin'! I have one of those Eames plywood chairs myself, and it actually is very comfortable. Kind of low-slung, though, so it's hard to get in and out of it sometimes, but it feels good while you're there.

As for the Real Simple Furniture: looks kind of interesting -- there's a vaguely de Stijl quality to the interlocking planes -- but not really my thing.

Baltic birch is very nice and really very sturdy. My dad just made some furniture from it and I don't see it breaking down at joints very easily. He used plans from Fine Woodworking to make a rocking chair and it contains almost no hardware (screws, bolts, etc). Although I'm not enamored with the styles this site sells, I think they might work well functionally.

It wouldn't really go with my house, but I wouldn't mind living in a space where it would.

There's a long history of knockdown furniture. This stuff functions much like the old Roman campaign furniture, but obviously they're making good use of the unique properties of modern high quality plywood. As a hobbyist woodworker, I'm a big fan of baltic birch and appleply. I agree with saleenl that it's probably well built. This isn't cheap plywood with voids in the core. It's at least as strong as solid wood, and far more stable.

When I was in college, I moved something like ten times in five years. This stuff is perfect for that. Lord knows I had plenty of roommates who bought cheap particleboard furniture. Once you got it assembled, it was okay, but if you ever had to take it apart and reassemble it it would get damaged in the process. This stuff costs more, but there's nothing more expensive than cheap furniture.

The chairs & couches are ugly to me but the rest of it seems okay.

Of course nothing can beat a cinder block & board bookshelf.

Real Simple Real Expensive.
I think you would get better value for your money at IKEA.
At least with the stuff at IKEA it's not not sitting on a piece of plywood, unless that's what you want.

Interesting article. [www.indystar.com] As long as the furniture is reasonably comfortable and lasts for a reasonable amount of time, I'll bet his company will be successful. For young people who move a lot, being able to move the furniture so easily and compactly would be a great thing. Just seeing it on the website, it's not really my style, but I'm not an early 20-something any more, either. I think it will fill a niche quite nicely (as long as the quality is there).
