Must It Be Called "Tips & Deals?"
Posted by: Stavs

Ok..too many people are taking the "Tips & Deals" title of this forum too seriously. Can we change the name to something like "Chit Chat," "Tips, Deals, and Nonsense," or something that is all encompassing. People are crying over the stupist @#$%&...you're bad if you post something thats not a "Tip or Deal" and you're bad if you post too many deals (the Newton fiasco of last week). C'mon people...accept the fact that this is a friendly forum for us all to get some deals, some tips (nowhere does it say what kind of tips!), and discuss anything we want.

Since I'm on a rant...let me piggyback off Pron's request to build this forum up. We need more activity people...we need to liven things up. On the plus side, at least it's more active than Deal-Graveyard....er Deal-Mac.

Rant done-my panties are no longer in a bunch.

I'm flattered...but this is for everyone smiling smiley

Maybe a separate one just for me and invited guests. It could be my "conjugal" room.

How about a forum just for Newton--that's what it seems like much of the time.

I really like the free posts-they could be consolidated.

Stavs Said..."Since I'm on a rant...would it let me piggyback off Pron's request to build this forum up. We need more activity people...we ned to liven things up. On the plus side, at least it's more active than Deal-Graeyard....er Deal-Mac. "

How does posting activity build the forum up? It just adds pages.
I read a few other forums that are non-Mac, and if there is too much posted-it is hard to concentrate on the purpose of the visit, and good information gets lost in the murk.

A new person to the forum-or just doing a drive by could have trouble finding anything of deals or Mac tips--if they get scrolled of the front page.
Posting activity just adds pages--If that is what makes this a better place fine--Post away.
I guess the easiest way to show what I am saying is to take it to the extreme to see if it makes sense. An example would be if I posted the weather from my location every couple of hours--and posted that I washed the dishes, and that my bathroom needed cleaning. If I feel this is important information for the forum, and I am compelled to post it.

This being said---In my opinion Newton has done well by limiting the nonsense posts, and for that I am grateful. I still thinks it would be easy to post a grouping of FREE deals together in one topic a couple of times a day (multiple post within the topic so Newton can keep the needed post count high).

This is just my opionion. I offer it for discussion--this is a group, and I suspect the lurkers and newbies might want a more concise forum.
I am not saying Free deals should be limited.

As has been posted many times before, in several other forums . . . yeah, you know the one I'm talking about . . . create your own . . . this is NOT yours.

Many... MANY of us just like things the way they are . . . I enjoy the variety of the posts here. Like I used to do "over there" . . . If you are so constricted in what appeals to you then MAKE IT HAPPEN . . . create your own.

OR, go back to DM!!!!!!

How about we just ignore the name? I always wondered what would have happened at DM in the end if everyone ignored all the forums except the Mac one and posted everything in there anyway. The moderators would get sick of moving posts eventually.

There ya go...I think thats a wonderful suggestion. I don't think we need to take the name so literally. We all come here for one reason or another...but there is a sense of community here that binds us together.

One of my very last posts at the other place suggested that we all post to just the Mac forum and treat it like the old DM. I was soundly thrashed for being an ingrate and for trying to undermine the structure of the universe.

I like things here just the way they are. I like the name. I like Newt's posts with long or short titles. I don't see any problem except the one that Pron has suggested that there might not be enough activity here. The activity seems to have increased, and that seems good. I like to stop by and see what's new. Nothing new, no reason to stop by.
