iPod issue - Too old for iTunes 6.01?

When I plug in my 10 gig iPod I get a pop up notice saying the software on my iPod is not current and that some items in iTunes were not updated on my iPod.
"go to the apple site, down load the latest iPod software, etc etc etc"

Did that, it won't let me install the latest software from Apple/iPod.. Installer launches and when its time to select EASY INSTALL or CUSTOM, no selections are possible.
So what do I do? iPodUpdater2005-11-17.dmg

Is my iPod too old for iTunes 6.01?

Your iPod is definitely not too old. I have a 1st gen. 5gb and it is working fine right along with the new 30gb video iPod. Might be a time for throwing out the prefs, but I wouldn't do that until some who really know weigh in on the topic.

You may need to update the firmware on the iPod as well.

ok - will see if I can find a page of firmware updates for the ipod over the weekend.
When I dug around Apple's site, all I found was the iPodUpdater2005-11-17.dmg file.
And thats the one that doesn't allow me to select an install option.
