I'm arriving in Chicago via train tomorrow morning @ 10:30am and I have a flight to catch at Midway at 12:30pm - can anyone tell me the fastest way to get to Midway from Union Station? Taxi or the orange line L train to Midway????

thanks!

If you are arriving by train and coming in to Union station? Northwestern Station? you are much better off grabbing a cab because you have to pretty much cross the loop from those stations to get to the Midway line in the first place.

So, grab a cab and hope that the Stevenson Ex is not running to slow...should be ok at that time of day...though, it is Friday so you never know. Even so, I believe a cab will be better. You are cutting it close so forget the EL becasue you have some work to GET to that after arriving by train.

Yeah I'm arriving by train into UNION STATION. How long do you think it will take a cab to get me to Midway? Thanks for your advice BTW-I always get nervous before traveling.

Hmm, should be about twenty minutes if all goes well.

The expressway is pretty close to Union Station, you want 90 to 55 to Cicero avenue south...90 is just a notch to the west of Union Station

If traffic is good you can get there in twenty...hard to say though. It will be much better than trying to dash to the EL...for sure.

You are running tight here, know this and dont stand around Union Station gaping at swimmers...scoot your butt to a cab and kick that horse.

Taxi should be 20 minutes, except during afternoon rush.

L is roughly 35 minutes from Quincy/Wells station, two blocks east of Union Station, plus 6 minute walk from station to airport terminal.

At Midway, keep to the far left entering security. Stations 5 and 6 are not visible to people approaching, and are usually the fastest. Just past security, Potbelly Subs is a good bet for a sandwich. There's also Manny's Deli for pastrami near Gate A6.

I don't remember where Union is... was only there as a kid. Used to come in at Randolph and Michigan a lot, however.

Once I flew into Midway - and took the train into downtown. Coming from South Florida, where mass transit (or their idea of it) is humorous to the point of ridiculous, hopping on that train and being downtown in 15 minutes or so was absolutely wonderful.

I seriously started thinking about braving the winters again, as long as I could live downtown .... and then people started parking planes in tall buildings, and I threw that plan into the crapper.

What a great system Chicago has. The trains are full of suits instead of homeless smelly bastids, which is what FL is all about. Ride the bus to get cooled off. Ride it all day to stay cooled off.

ok - so now I'm going to be flying INTO Chicago Midway from NY on MONDAY. My plane gets in at 4:19PM and I HAVE to catch the Amtrack train back to my hometown - which leaves Union Station at 5:55pm. Now, when at the beginning of my trip when I went from Union Station to Midway I took a cab and it was at 10:30am and I got to Midway in 20mins - BUT on MOnday trying to get to Union Station from Midway during rush hour - I'm thinking maybe a cab isn't the fastest? How about taking a train from Midway to Union?? Think that's my best plan of action??? I HAVE to make the train leaving from Union Sation or I'm stuck in Chicago. So any travel advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!
