I keep getting Email with .dat attachments is there any way to open them? I am using Leopard. I see references to TNEF's Enough and OMiC but it is not clear that either will work with Leopard. Any ideas?

.dat is just a data file - could be music, video or anything...

if you KNOW what kind of media it is, just use an app that work with that kind of media

They are text files from Microsoft Outlok or Exchange. You can see some of the text with a lot of gibberish using Text Edit

If you know what it is, like a jpeg or a microsoft word document, change the extension to ".jpg" or ".doc" or whatever it should be and open it as normal.

then it's probably just an email document - I bet you're getting these in forwarded emails. 95% chance they are just an Outlook file that is the same as the content of the email that it was sent with.

Oy. So much misinformation.

I googled, found this. At first glance it seems good:

If I were to send you some of my .dat files you might open them with a text editor, but you would just get a mile long scroll to the right of non-sensical letters and numbers.

Thanks M A V I C

I missed seeing the availability of a Leopard beta when I visited the site.

I have put in a request for it.

The wonderful thing about Windows users is that they have no idea what kind of files their email clients send out, particularly those nasty .dat files from outlook, etc., so asking them is useless. Most of them have no idea what a file is or what an app is, and so, really, they're just like Mac users.......

What it is, man, a low-down and funky feelin'
