So how much is my National Geographic collection worth?

It's time to clean out the closets. 20 years worth and only one issue is missing. Are we talking recycling?

To me... it's priceless.

Which is pretty much the same thing as "worthless."

The last 20 years? I'd save the one with that Afghani if you have both of them. A few other issues with maps, etc. Stuff like that is indeed tough to part with. I remember doing the same with my Playboys... some of which went back to 1974. I just tore out centerfolds and boxed them

Now some (MANY) of those issues are worth $100-$400 EACH via Playboy directly.

My head hurts now. Thanks for bringing back that memory and my discovery of their value (made just a few months ago).

EVIL PERSON!!

I wouldn't recycle them. I would assume that some libraries would be happy to accept a donation of all of those issues if they don't already have them.

After years of doing book and bake sales for the library, I can tell you that National Geographics don't sell, even when we reduce the price in the last hours of the sale and make the price as many as you can carry for a quarter. Sorry.

NG are the best waiting room material. I keep a few in my car in case I need to go somewhere and wait... Be a really cool person and take them to waiting rooms where people are usually waiting on bad news... There have been times that I would have killed for an NG. If you gave me one then, I would have nice things to say to you.

Recently I had a large collection of National Geographics dating back to the early 1980s that I wanted to find a good home for. I quickly decided they had no resale value without a lot of effort. I called the local library and they did not want them. I called the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, thinking they would be well placed there. They said they wanted them so I drove the 50 miles to deliver them. When I arrived I was told they only accepted "magazines" that were less than a year old, but offered to throw them in their dumpster so I wouldn't have to bother with them. I kept them and found a local teacher who wanted them.

Many places will not even take for free. If you have a rare issue but in my experience no one wants them. Expensive to sell via post because they cannot go media rate. 20 yrs in this day and age is recent and very available.

Donate to Goodwill and take the tax writeoff.
