Blazing Saddles is On!

Man do I love this movie...so many great lines, and Mel's secretary Miss Stein (Robyn Hilton) is amazing. Apparently she was a porn star, but most of her movies and pix have been lost.

I dont think there is a funnier movie out there.....

I fell in love with Madeline Kahn in that film. One of the funniest women ever.

"Excuse me while I whip dis out..."

So many memorable lines.
The late, great Richard Pryor wrote a lot of that stuff.

They would never be able to get away with a movie like this nowadays.

If they tried to make that movie today.... the studo would be burned down by an angry yet self righteous mob, all the actors would have to go into seclusion, and Mel Brooks would be murdered...

One of my favorite comedies EVER... it was careful to offend E V E R Y O N E equally...

Blazing Saddles couldn't be made to day because there's very little talent left in Hollywood.

'Offensive' films are made all the time, 'offensive good films,' rarely.

The old prospector drunk...."The Sheriff's a..DIng!"..."I said, The sherriffs a...Ding!" Response..."I think he said, "The Sherriff is NEAR"

Plus, the prospector's speech at the town meeting..hilarious (doesn't he make a speech?

Mel Brooks as the Indian chief commenting (in a yiddishy accent) on Cleavon Little's skin color being darker then the their's.

delicious...

And of course, When Mongo punches the horse.

The only thing close to the risky behaviour in this flick might be Larry David's, Curb Your Enthusiasm, on HBO.

Ditto to it all. If BS was the only comedy ever made, I'd still watch it every night. "What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?", "Anozer schnittzengrubben?", everybody in town's names Johnson and Howard Johnson has only one flavor ice cream - fabulous!

Noticed something, though; maybe others have noticed the same thing:

I thought I knew that flick inside and out, but a couple of years back when it was on one of the premium cable channels, I saw a scene I didn't remember seeing when the film was first released:

When Cleavon Little is after Mongo, he does the candygram bit, but there was also a scene where Mongo's chained up and submerged into a "magician's cabinet" w/ water - ala Houdini. I'll swear on a stack of Bibles that wasn't in the original print. Anybody else remember the scene?

What types of drugs are you partial to?

Ibuprophen will not explain this away unless it was taken in combination with homemade chicken pot pie.

Gabby Johnson spoke "authentic frontier gibberish."
"I didn't get a harumph out of that guy!"
This and the Pink Panther movies make me laugh every time.

Deleted scenes they use in the "regular tv version" is my guess. I've seen it too. Think about it...you wanna show that on a network, you have to cut out so much stuff that you're left with what amounts to a 3 Stooges short.

Madeline Kahn's delivery of the saloon act was strictly brilliant. Her bored demeanour and jaded front, priceless.

She was great in Young Frankenstein too...

Here I stand, the goddess of Desire
Set men on fire
I have this power
Morning noon and night it's drink and dancing
Some quick romancing
And then a shower
Stage door johnnies always surround me
They always hound me
With one request
Who can satisfy their lustful habits
I'm not a wabbit
I need some rest

I'm tired
Sick and tired of love
I've had my fill of love
From below and above
Tired, tired of being admired
Tired of love uninspired
Let's face it
I'm tired

I've been with 1000's of men
Again and again
They promise the moon
They always coming and going
Going and coming
And always too soon
Right girls?

I'm tired,
Tired of playing the game
Ain't it a crying shame
I'm so tired
God dammit I'm exhausted

Tired, tired of playing the game
Ain't it a crying shame
I'm so tired

[Soldiers:]
She's tired (She's tired)
Sick and tired of love (Give her a break)
She's had her fill of love (She's not a snake)
From bellow and above (Can't you see she's sick)
Tired (She's bushed)
Tired of being admired (Let her alone)
Tired of love uninspired (Get off the phone)
She's tired (Don't you know she's pooped)

I've been with 1000's of men
Again and again
They sing the same tune
They start with Byron and Shelly
And jump on your belly
And bust your ballon
Aye!

Tired, tired of playing the game
Ain't it a freakin' shame
I'm so...
Let's face it everything below the waist is kapput!

I rented this from the local library the other day, just to see it uncut and to watch the Special Features. Great comments from Wilder, Brooks, Korman, and the cowboy with the big teeth (forgot his name).

There was a time when networks routinely slated a 2 1/2 hour slot for movies, sometimes 3 hours. When I was growing up, all the James Bond films were on from 8:30 PM until 11 PM. Usually one every 2 months, in continous rotation.

I don't know how many times I've seen that movie - it's a classic. I should watch it again, it's been too many years since I last saw it!

I always remember the bit with "Randolph Scott". I've heard that chorus singing "Randolph Scott" in my head hundreds of times through the years when anything triggers it, like seeing the word "Randolph" or hearing the actor's name, or whatever.

[www.ladyofthecake.com] <--sound wav file
Bart: Just give me twenty-four hours to come up with a brilliant idea to save our town. Just twenty-four hours. That's all I ask.
The Townsfolk: No!
Bart: You'd do it for Randolph Scott.
The Townsfolk: (reverentially) Randolph Scott! (They remove their hats and place them over their hearts.) [Note: Randolph Scott was one of the most popular Western heroes of the 50s and 60s.]
Howard Johnson: All right, sheriff. Twenty-four hours.

This movie and "Casablanca" have to be the two most quoted movies ever made.

My favorite (as Slim Pickens was an old freind) ...

Slim Pickens was always one of my favorites. He was also great in Dr. Strangelove, another great movie.
