Just got a couple of the new SDHC (high capacity?) memory cards, and for some reason, they're not recognized in my old card reader. They work fine, and are recognized in the camera, but don't show up when plugged into either of two card readers I tried...

Yes, they need a reader that is able to read the high capacity cards. A lot of high capacity cards come with a reader, but I guess yours didn't.

Until you get a reader, I guess your only option is to keep the card in your camera and plug the camera into your computer.

Last time they were on sale I picked up a dozen of them for stocking stuffers.

I have used cheap card readers before, and if you are moving a few hundred digital pics for example, it is not unusual to have a bunch at random be damaged, or even be missed, or have the transfer stall, or just quit.

It has happened to me a number of times, and I was present when it happened to MAVIC as well.

I have one of the SanDisk Extreme USB2 readers now. Their FW reader is even faster.
