What?! No more XP?

Why? Vista isn't really lighting the computer world on fire. What would happen if this happened to Apple? If OS 10.4 was still outselling or coming close to outselling 10.5, wouldn't that kinda tell you something?

You can also tell Vista is a pile of steaming poo by listening to the talking heads at MS. They aren't talking up Vista; they are talking up Windows 7.

They spent almost 10 years on Vista and by most accounts it is a half-baked attempt at an operating system. Think Windows ME all over again.

I think they should shutter Vista and keep supporting XP.

Yeah, but i thought with lackluster Vista sells they would prolong the complete plunge a little longer. Maybe when their NEXT system came around they would quit. That would be nice. It doesn't really effect me too much though.

Corporate Intel did not and is not switching to Vista. They are staying with XP as are all of us. I remember ME and I thought it was my computer was going bad because of the constant, daily problems I was having.

Vista "ate" my Video startup on my submini Sony.

Support isn't going away just yet.

From a more recent article-
"Even though Microsoft won’t sell XP any longer, it will still be a supported operating system for many years to come. Microsoft has committed to providing “business as usual” updates (mainstream support) through April 14, 2009, followed by “extended support” through 2014. Mainstream support means there may be updates to Windows XP that provide new features between now and next April, and that warranty claims and no-charge-incidents will be handled. In the extended support mode, there won’t be any new features, and warranty coverage and no-charge-incident support won’t be available."

How many copies of Vista that sold so far are in Balmer's garage?

What will MS do when XP is no longer for sale and Vista sales don't increase? From what I have read, most federal gov agencies have not approved Vista yet and may not. So, what do they do for new computers?

Exactly.

Microsoft is such a business/enterprise oriented company. Have they been listening to their customers?

You can't admit to making a mistake even though everyone around you knows it. The question is...can Vista be fixed? (from a user perspective and a marketing perspective)

MicroSoft is in a position where they don't have to listen to the customer. Such is the benefit of a monopoly.

Like Lily Tomlin's alter ego Ernestine said, "We don't care. We don't have to. We're the Phone Company."
