I'm a nerd. I'm certainly not the biggest nerd, but I think I have some nerd cred.

I needed to copy a list of around twenty folder names from Windows Explorer into Word, so I wrote a Perl script to do it.

Open folder, select the folder's whose names you want to copy, ctrl-c, ctrl-v into Word.

When you do so, it tries to copy the object, not the filenames.

At least, that's how it works here in America, buddy. <chawspit>

What Lux said is right, except for the directly into Word part. Paste the names into a text only editor first, like Text Wrangler, and it will work fine.

It does both, but it assumes you just want to paste the names of the folders into a Word document, if that's where you unleash the cntrl-v.

Windows est la même merde partout.

Doesn't work here.

Copy folder names from Windows. Go to Wordpad or Word - Paste. Fail.

yesterday my roommate sent me an article saying that our internet was down.

i explained that my time lapse camera contacts my webserver every time it takes a pic. if it fails to be contacted for 15 min, it sends me an email.

i knew out internet had been out and restored before the article was written.

Very nice, except I've been working on getting my SGI Origin 2000's booting Irix. I'm not there yet, some issues with ksh are present, but, I did manage to get the MMSC(Screen on the front of them) working after hooking it up to a different power supply.

And in other news, I've written two webapps in the past 2 weeks in PHP, and am working on debugging C today, Woohoo!

'chip is getting an earlier nerd start than I did, so he'll do well.

Except, of course, he'll have to deal with the Indian nerds, who will nerd for one-quarter the price.

OK, I guess you are nerdy. I missed the whole Windows part. I read that as windows, meaning a window in the Finder in OS X.

Seriously though, I just tried it and it worked.

Update:

Never mind. It wasn't a Windows Explorer window, but another one whose windows look JUST like WE.

FAIL for me!

Wouldn't that make you a Geek, rather than Nerd?

Nerd: [en.wikipedia.org]

Geek: [en.wikipedia.org]

There are some overlapping similarities, but I suspect most of the folks on this forum would fall into the Geek category.

Speaking of geeks/nerds, one of my favorite shows on TV now is The Big Bang Theory. It's like my friends got their own TV show -- my people finally have a voice!

LOVE that show!

VERY funny.

(And I seldom type in caps because-- wait for it-- IT JUST LOOKS WRONG. There's a whole "time and place" thing for using caps.)

And I like Penny. She's not "hot", but she's realistically good looking, shows some ta, and is quick of wit.

I've got all the episodes on torrent.

I was a nerd back in grammar school through high school, but I was a reading nerd. Those sorts of nerds seem to be endangered.

Once the computer age hit, I was left in the dust. That is when nerds became geeks. Well, some did and some did not.

I went to the company cafeteria with 20 pennies and 40 cents in nickels. I exchanged the pennies for two dimes with the cashier and put all of the resulting silver into a soda machine. Pushed the coin return to turn it into two quarters and and a dime.

You might ask, "why didn't you also turn the nickels into the cashier, and have the cashier give you the quarters, etc.? Doesn't that make you a dork, not a nerd?" Yes, I thought you might ask that.
