NC Outer Banks

We have pretty much exhausted the eastern shore points. Is there one destination where most people end up when they got the "outer Banks"? Any recommendations would be useful.

If you ask in two weeks, I could give some suggestions. We're heading down there next weekend. First time for me. Kids can't wait. Stocking up on dvd's for the ride down.

I love Cape Hatteras. Kitty Hawk, Nags Head area is very built up, lots of shops, restaurants, etc. Hatteras is mostly cottages. If you want the traffic and shops, stay north of Hatteras. If you want the beach and a lot less tourist crap, go to Hatteras. Southern Shores and Duck (north of Kitty Hawk) may also be an option. Don't think it's gotten quite as built up there yet.

It's been years, but I liked Atlantic Beach down by Morehead City. Awesome SCUBA diving out of there if you're into that.

Try the towns of Avon, Buxton and Hatteras Village. These are all south near and past the Hatteras Lighthouse. Much less tourism there.

never been there, but judging by all the OBX stickers i see on vehicles, it must be VERY popular.

in fact, i refer to those with those stickers as "the OBX cult." it's like a sickness around here.

I would suggest traveling down the outer banks.

I f you want some great surfing/body boarding go to Hatteras (North) or Corolla.

Visiting the Dune at Kitty Hawk is a must... also, go at night during a full moon for an outer worldly experience.

Have fun.

We went windsurfing near Ocracoke (sp?). There were rentals, and also people were kitesurfing...

Beautiful country...enjoy!

Ocracoke Island
Jockey Ridge (large sand dune south? of Kitty Hawk with hang gliding
Wright Brothers Memorial at Kitty Hawk
Corrolla and Duck areas have the best shops
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
Beach is good all along the Outer Banks

Have a great time. OBX rules!
