1.) Resize the the browser window.
2.) Have embedded music that can't be turned off.

Since getting hooked on StumbleUpon, I'm encountering more & more of these.

I agree.

I also hate when they have crazy amounts of moving objects (via Flash or whatever) and I'm trying to read body text. Eye can't stay focused on the text. Grrrr.

Turn off plug-ins and Javascript. White list sites which can access these features. Done.

Sounds like work. I prefer just clicking back and never visiting those sites again.

Firefox with Adblock Plus makes more sites bearable.

I am running into sites that have ads covering the text and I can't move them. Is it Safari that is doing this?

It's possible Safari is rendering the site wrong. Try looking at the site using a different browser.

Sites that autostart *any* multimedia content; music, movies, whatever. Flash introduction pages that last longer than a few seconds and don't have a "skip" button. Any site still designed with too much form and not enough function.

a friend of mine was designing a site for an author who really wanted music to play when her homepage opened. i immediately lobbied against it pointing out how problematic that is for people surfing at libraries or at work. she relayed that information to the client and the client changed her mind. people think it's cute and have no idea how annoying it is until you tell them.

as for long intro pages - how annoying. like i have nothing better to do with my time than watch figures dance on the screen. i want the info i'm seeking and then get out of there!

It's 2008.
Why are people still clinging to these annoyances?

Sometimes I use bookmarklets to fix these pages, if I find the content interesting enough to read.

Usually, though I just close the window/tab, and never go back.

I think the worst thing is sites that use Java for no good reason. I hate sitting there for 30 seconds for a Java applet to load only to find it's a picture of a train blowing smoke. I'd like to shoot the web "designer."

I think the problem is elsewhere.
