Went to my local photo store yesterday and they were out of the G9 saying that they had been out for a couple of weeks and hadn't been about to get any.

Could a replacement be imminent?

I have been eyeing the G9 but couple of factors has kept me away. XTi can be had for not much more. Considering that I have a full array of EF lenses it is a big factor. Then there is the Coolpix P5100 at much lower prices. So i don't know.

I was recently at a meeting with a Canon rep. He confirmed the rumor about the G9 being replaced.

I need to buy a camera before my trip on August 11th.

And I've already got the 300D, I'm trying to lighten my travel bag and reduce.

I haven't talked to any reps but the G9 is due for replacement. They usually announce at the end of August and ship in Sept. and Oct. for the Photokina show.

I doubt there will be an announcement and shipment by Aug. 11.

No prediction as to when. My guess is that pRICEcUBE is right.

Maybe you can pick up a sigma 18-200mm to hold you over for the trip? Might be a great excuse to pick up the smaller XTi I posted yesterday for $469?
