I desperately need some battery backup (at least 1500) since the one I have is failing miserably. So i was just wondering if APC is the best or any other recommendations?

Actually, the HP ones are very good. Better than APC, but you can't find them anywhere. They have a nonexistent sales channel. You could probably get them from hp.com or through CDW. May be overkill for you needs, though.

Belkin is pretty good, IME.

Tripp Lite and Liebert also have good models of UPS's. Though you will mostly see the Liebert models sold to businesses or other commercial operations.

I think this will probably be the best for me. the form factor is a factor and this one works well in my space...or will work well. Plus I can get free shipping.

Yes, APC makes my favorite jeans. New Standard FTW!

I use the IBM badged version of the APC 1500. It has a little better surge protection than the standard model.
You can get refurbished units with new batteries here:

Good link, Pipiens. I could use a rackmounted 2200VA unit on the cheap...

I have had one of these for several years now and it has worked without any problems:

What is "failing" with your current one? If it's just that the batteries have worn out, head to your local battery store and replace them. On your average APC (even if APC's website says they're not replaceable), it's about a 10 minute process once you remove the cover.

sorry. by failing I mean its inadequate for my purpose. i've got a macpro, dual LCDs and various other peripherals. my current UPS gives me exactly zero uptime when the power goes out. I will probably repurpose that one for use with my cable modem, router, voip box etc.
