I would like to have a good selection of magazines but I haven't ordered or read any magazines for several years.

Anyone have favorites they would recommend?

Maxim

Fantastic anatomy coverage that you might enjoy RE-learning about yourself.

Otherwise.... [www.nature.com] $99/year for students.
Scientific American is also excellent and while popular, still "valid" as a journal.

Popular Mechanics and Popular Science are good for all age groups.

Wired is a good tech source for many ages.

Technology Review from MIT is excellent, but its content might not interest a 13 y.o.

I have a different view of Scientific American. It was once one of my favorites. It turned from a popular mag to serious in 1948. I read every issue from 1948 until it changed back a few years ago. At that point it was not worth reading so I canceled my subscription.. That was a few years ago so maybe it has gotten better recently.

Also:
Science News ( weekly; American, format recently revamped )

and:
New Scientist ( weekly; British viewpoint on news and humor, excellent science and maths reportage )

Check them out at the nearest public library in the periodicals section, then decide what works best for you.

my son likes Odyssey Magazine from Cricket Publishing. if he is very advanced in science, this would be light reading for him. my son - who likes science but i wouldn't call him advanced - also enjoys leafing through Scientific American. he'll be 15 in September. he's been getting Odyssey for a few years now and devours every issue.

I got a free subscription to SEED. REALLY scientific on a variety of fronts but very interesting reads (from a non-scientific mind like mine).

Ditto Odyssey Magazine -- that's a classic.

13 year olds should have better things to do than worry about science.
