D'Oh! iPod Touch Software confusion...

Got my refurb 16GB iPod Touch today and am pretty impressed.

Though I was a bit confused to discover that even though it was listed as including the "current software," that it doesn't include the iPhone 2.0 software upgrade.

Apparently "current software" means an update to the iTouch that was made in January that includes a few new internet Apps (costing previous iPod Touch owner's $19.99)... but NOT the iPhone 2.0 software update which now costs iPod Touch owners $9.99.

So it seems... the iPhone 2.0 Software IS NOT included with any new or refurb iPod Touch.

It is sold only as an add-on feature or accessory.

This may have been patently obvious to everyone but me. If not, consider your now edjumacated.

I shall now go to the iTMS to pony up 10 more clams for the 2.0 software...

It's worth it. Just a warning, though - the App Store is addictive!

So you are saying you got touched, but just not enough?

I am waiting until sellers expressly say "includes iphone 2.0 software".

Yes. Apparently I didn't pay for the "Happy Ending."

Definitely worth the 10 bucks just to be able to download from the app store, be sure to check out the free games, there are a few really good ones.

Might be worth a call to Apple (if that's where you got it) to say that you think "latest software" (or whatever) should include the iPhone stuff. They might just give it to you for free.

I was annoyed at the iPod Touch refurb listing "current software" - and if it's true that they don't come with 2.0 firmware, then that's counter to Apple's practice on refurb macs where they usually *do* include the latest OS.

While $9.99 is worth it I would still give Apple a call and highlight this glaring discrepancy, maybe you'll get a credit and/or the policy changed.

Interesting. I ordered a refurbished iPod Touch for my son on Monday. At the time, the Apple website clearly indicated that current software meant the January update so I didn't have an expectation that 2.0 update was included. I looked now and they have removed the note about current software being the January update. That should cause them quite a lot of headaches!
