New Dual Core 2.3GHz G5 Online & Cookin'!!

It finally happened. Apple Customer Relations came through today with an expidited CS Repair Order so The Mac Shoppe could install my Airport Extreme/Bluetooth module, and I picked this baby up at about 5:30PM. Installed a PCI Express 2-Port FireWire card (SIIG) that I had to internally power off the optical drive via splitter, hooked up my FireWire backup HD, transferred all my Applications, Documents, Files, preferences, the whole shebang via Migration Assistant, and voila!

It's a Go Captain!smiling smiley

Upon further inspection it turns out there's an optical drive of unknown origin or brand inihabiting the machine:
HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B:

Firmware Revision: C006
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No

So if anybody knows what that one is, please let me know!

My primary HDrive is a Maxtor 6L250M0 (250GB), which matches (almost) a Maxtor 7Y250M0 (250GB) from my old G5. Almost makes me want to make a RAID array out of them! The new version of Blue Tooth/Airport Extreme seems to work well. I walked across the room with my BT mouse and could still click on things, so that's coolsmiling smiley

The 8GB RAM it's running somehow doesn't seem like too much for a machine like this. I get the feeling it would really scream with 16GB! LOL! I'm just funnin' you all, honest, I have no reason to do something stupid like that. It's pretty darn quiet compared to my old 1.8GHZ DP G5, even if it does have 9 fans and 'zones' that they control.

Temperature Monitor works waaay different in this machine than my old one. Maybe there's a new version for this Dual Core Mac, who knows? But there are a lot less items for the software to use its sensors on compared to the old G5.

All in all, I'm a happy SOB right now.

Thank You Apple Customer Relations!!!grinning smileygrinning smileygrinning smileygrinning smileygrinning smileygrinning smiley

They will forever be my friends. Now, to just get AppleCare handled on this baby, and I'll be all set.

This 1st post from a brand new G5 Dual Core 2.3GHz G5 feels like something special, don't you think?

Two seconds with Google provided the answer to your question. I won't post it here, as I do not wish to deprive you of the pleasure of using your shiny new machine to deduce the answer yourself.

Hey NOSX, I deserved that one! LOL!!smiling smiley

So I got me an LG-GSA-4165B optical drive that prefers DVD+ media to the finest TYuden DVD-R stuff out there...now that's truly a weird one. Lucky for me I still have a nice, fresh DVR-110D sitting here, still in its box, that I never put into my old G5 since it croaked, as you all know by now.

After getting this Mac for free, if I don't like the performance of the LG unit, I'll simply swap out the DVR-110D for the LG unit. Don't matter to me one way or the other.

I'll never get the hang of remembering Google for everything on this planet. I guess you could find out the color of Egyptian money if you wanted to there...whatever. I'm just such a happy SOB right about now that I can't contain myself.

So what about the Maxtor HD and the LG optical drive. It's the guts that count, and it's guts this G5 has.

And thanks so much for the Leaders, my friends. I always give them, so it's about time I got a couple...
