I'm trying to figure out if there's a keyboard equivalent to double-clicking on a cell to edit right there in the cell. Seems like I found one once, but now no luck. Also, once in edit-in-cell mode, is there any way to move the cursor forward or backward from the keyboard? This is in Excel '04, fwiw.

Just go to help and type in "keyboard shortcuts". It'll list more shortcuts than you can shake a stick at.

Does anyone have a shortcut for pasting unformatted text? I do that all the time and it is a nuisance doing it with menus.

You're gonna need a macro for that one. Easy enough to do though. Just do a google search.

Would not Paste/Special/Values do that?

I have the icon for this function on my icon bar. It pastes just the text that is on the copy clipboard.

That doesn't quite do it. When you are copying and pasting a lot of cells, the extra step of going up to the toolbar each and every time really cuts your production rate. It's much faster to use the mouse only for selecting data and use the other hand for keyboard shortcuts to do the cut and pasting.

Sorry Dave, but you must have misunderstood my question. F2 simply does a command-c: Copy. I'm trying to do what a double-click with the mouse does: inserts your cursor into the given cell, allowing you to type directly in that cell from there. Unfortunately, when you use the arrow keys in that mode, you simply jump to the neighboring cell, but out of the direct-edit mode you were using in the original cell…

Damn Micro$oft; I just wish they'd make everything as customizable as the stuff they think is important!

Anything you can do from a toolbar or a menu, you can add a keyboard shortcut for using Tools->Customize… You just have to be able to find it from there.

Problem is, I can't find what I want in there!

I didn't misunderstand the question, it's just that F2 works differently on the mac than on the PC. What you need is Control + U which should do exactly what you want (of course this is Excel v. X...I don't know if that command will hold up for your version.

Davester! You're my hero!!

Not only does Control-u do exactly what I want, but I then discovered that control-[right/left] arrow allows you to move one word either direction within that cell without jumping to another cell!
