Have any stock tips?

Some friends and I have a stock contest every few months. We each pick a single stock and record the price on that day. Then, the stock that goes up the most over the allotted time wins. The winner gets dinner, beer, and admission to the worst movie currently showing. Last time we went to see The Ruins,a terrible movie about a plant that lives on a mexican temple and eats people. It was bad. REALLY bad.

Does anyone have a good pick for a stock that they think will go up substantially in the next 2 months? They don't have to be expensive. The most recent winner chose LTHU and cost $.06/share. I think that it closed at nearly $.08/share. His pick went up 20% over 3 months. I picked SAM and I broke even. I would have won had it not been for those pesky shards of glass in the beer bottles that forced a $20,000,000 recall the day after the contest started...

I should point out that I don't necessarily plan to purchase any stocks. I just pick one for the purpose of this contest.

Some of the most financially successful people of all time have a great tip: never buy stock in anything you don't have control over.

Well, the only thing that I have control over is my company's network. I wouldn't by stock in my own company unless they dumped the entire senior management team.

Buy high, sell low.

...oh, wait!

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

eh, that should be an even bet no matter who is researching and who isn't. on a basis that small stock movement must be damn near random.

Back in 1997 I advised a number of people to buy Apple; it was trading at around $12. No one listened. least of all me.

Okay, I take that back; I bought one share. It's hanging on my wall.

I almost bought a couple thousand dollars of Apple in 1998. Instead I bought an iMac and a printer. I should have bought the stoc.

Wasn't the all time low for AAPL something like 12 7/8s in the summer of 1997, just before the return of Steve and the Microsoft investment? I almost bought then... and I'm still kicking myself.

You're not even close--the split adjusted price on Dec 23, 1997: $3.23; today it's at approximately $164--roughly 51 times higher than the all-time low.

I expect AAPL to be at about $210 by the end of October--will that do?
