I Googled: I can't figure out how to do Dual Processor folding on my G5.
Posted by: microchip13

I just downloaded InCrease, it shows just one, the GUI version, I Googled and I can't figure out how I can use both processors.

Just because it has two clutches, shifts faster, uses a torque converter or has near-infinite gear ratios, requires less driver intervention and is more efficient doesn't make it better in my opinion.

Not sure what you mean...
InCrease (in it's preferences) will let you "fold" on both processors.

Wish I was in front of my Dual G4 so I could be more specific....

It'll do it. That much I can say for sure.

first off - important that you set it up for the MacResource Folding Team #48057. you'll have a change to get a good position in our team ranking with that shiny, fast G5 too... smiling smiley

And this guide will show you how to use Increase - which supports the two processors. You then don't use the folding@home application - increase uses it's core though.

Des your "use of CPU" preference give you the option of using two processor?

Maybe I'll move over to 48057. Right now I'm on Team 38910.

We'll see.

thanks for the guide.

If I do give to 48057, you could give me a discount on some OWC products ;)

Yes, it gives me the option, but I only see one protien folding in InCrease.

I remember when I did this a while ago, I had to move some file....

I might see your problem...
You can't use BOTH the Folding@home client, AND InCrease...

Uninstall both, and reinstall InCrease...
InCrease will do you good all by it's lonesome.

Chip, made the same mistake you made when I first started folding... Was having the F@H app running while running Increase... you use one or the other.. and Increase is the solution for getting best efficiency + both processors going.

You may not have to re-install increase, just launch increase without having the F@H app going - and don't run F@H anymore.

Like Pat said, if you want to see the molecule(s) - Increase is bundled with a viewer for that.

And Paul - we are considering something down the road for those contributing. And there is this forum up an running too smiling smiley

I don't understand how I moved up so fast?

MacResource Folding Team #48057:

Rank: 25 User: GeneL Score: 2423 WU:10

So where's my discount on the Mercury Elite_AL FW400/800+USB 2.0 I just purchased?

Btw, Larry, the screws used to attach the face plate are very unusual. To the eye they look as if they are "stripped" phillips screws but, in fact, it turned out that a tiny Jeweler's flat head screwdriver was required to tighten them.

They gave me a hell of a time until I figured that out. Even one of your tech guys kept telling me that they were phillips screws and was getting pissed off at me when I insisted that they weren't.

I'd suggest including a typewritten tip sheet with this enclosure, for other dunces like me who buy this model, since there was NOTHING in the box to explain about the screws and also about the "side" mounting design which differs from the online instructions for the non-"AL" Mercury Elite.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Ok.

Cool, thanks.

It's working now.

The face of the drive shouldn't need to be removed/reattached - but none the less will address the whole ball of wax tomorrow... err later today.

Instructions for the Elite-AL specifics are being adapted to web now too.

That G5 is really cranking out the units - and getting nice large proteins at that.

Larry, it was the face plate (the plate that fits over the on/off switch and the ports) of the enclosure that I referred to, nothing to do with the drive.

What made you think that I was referring to the drive?

Now do you get what I meant?

I have to add, that I LOVE my new OWC Mercury AL enclosure.

It's performance, features, design simplicity and the fact that it matches my G5 tower so beautifully makes it a real winner.

Thanks, Larry smiling smiley
