Quick Money?

I hit a deer on my way into work today with my car. I was devastated. Good news, my insurance calls it an "Act of Nature" and it won't negatively impact my coverage. Bad news is I have $500 deductible and have NO cash. We just bought a house (signed yesterday) so our credit is frozen, we have dumped every spare dollar into pre-move improvements and the move itself.

So, got no one to borrow money from, don't want to do a payday loan (don't think I can with the new house stuff just starting), I work for the gov't so no dice on an advance....anyone know of other options for coming up with $500 by the end of the week??

A Nigerian loan?

[blogs.news.com.au]

Seriously, talk to your family and friends.

Ask for a gift, not a loan. If they love you they will just give it to you!

When someone asks me for a loan, I just give them the cash. If I get it back that's OK if not I just don't loose any sleep over it!

Edit...

It doesn't have to come from one person...

5/100's

25/20's

You can't put it on a credit card?

How about an overdraft on your checking account?

I'd avoid payday-loan places and no-credit-check auto-loan places. Their interest is ludicrously high..

Sell the deer meat??? Sorry, couldn't help it. Seriously tho, if you talk to the repair shop and explain the situation maybe they'd be willing to work with you on payments. I'm small town here so we actually have people that still do this.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm meeting with the guy at the repair shop today. I'm gonna see if he'd be interested in running a trade of some sort. His office building is a mess with cables everywhere. I'm gonna see if he'll discount me if I run cable through the walls and such form him to clean the place up some.

Do you have anything to sell?

A lot of body shops will take credit cards.

Check with payroll at work. They may have emergency loans or a way to borrow against your 457b/401k.

Even if you come up with the $500, you'll need to build a reserve fund quickly especially if you are a homeowner. Roofs leak at the most inopportune time!

Ask the body shop if he can "cover the deductible"?

He agreed to a trade for some work and covering any remaining.

Thanks for the pointers. Just another few days and I get my car back now! :-)
