EZ-PASS question
Posted by: space-time

I live in NJ, I don't commute on turnpike or GSP, but on weekends when we travel I hate stopping for ticket and then look for change, so I signed up for EZ-PASS.

I signed up for the basic plan ($25 deposit via CC), but they have all sorts of plans for bridges, tunnels, commuters, etc. I hope my EZ-PASS will let me go though ANY EZ-PASS lane, even on Tappan Zee bridge, or NY State Throughway, or even in Delaware... is that correct? or do I have to sign up for each of these plans?

any tips or advice you have to share? thanks

I used my ezpass in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Jersey, NYC, etc.

I'm pretty sure it will work in any east-coast toll road/bridge/tunnel.

As other have stated, EZ-PASS will work anywhere you see the EZ-PASS sign. Those extra plans offer you a discount if you're a frequent user of one bridge.

cool, I don't need the discount, just to avoid the long lines.

BTW, you don't have to sign up for the EZPass plan in your state.

For example, I live in PA, but I signed up for the MD EZ Pass plan. Why? PA, NJ, and the Del River Port Auth all charge some sort of monthly fee or require exorbitant account minimum (I think PA was $25 per transceiver - 3 transceivers = $75 minimum balance).

MD EZ Pass didn't have any of that BS and has no additional fees. I get a paper statement bi-monthly (once every two months).

DE charges a $25 deposit fee per tag up front. NJ does NOT charge a deposit fee per tag if you fund it with a credit card, but they'll charge you $10 if you fund it with cash.

Log into their web site and make sure that your info is correct and that they haven't signed you up for the McDonald's plan or any of that other BS.

I live in fly over land and we have no mandatory tolls. You can voluntarily pay a toll to run in the car pool lane but mainly the rich do so. Our bridges do tend to fall in rivers so it's nice not to pay a toll for the privilege of crashing down.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Maybe if you paid tolls, they would have money for bridge maintenance.

In a perfect world, at least.
