Now this leaves us with at&t and Verizon.

I hope at&t wins, but I'd love to see Deutch Telecom come into the game.

All you Cingular customers, welcome to at&t wireless

Whoa.

I originally signed up with ATTW.
Still never officially switched.
Everything old is new again.

I started w/ AT&T and became a Cingular customer, and nothing changed about my plan. Can you explain your conclusion?
I have no doubt the government wants consolidation for easier control.

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

Me neither. But if I wanted a new (subsidized) phone, then they would have made me switch to a higher priced plan (with more minutes than I'll ever use), so I never switched.

Ha! Funny man.
He thinks the government controls what the corporations do.
Better yet, that they are separate entities.

Cingular is starting to play games with the old ATT Go plan customers

I have a friend that still has the old Go plan (great deal for pre pay)
and they just sent her a text message that her account was low ($ 7 credit)
and then cut her phone off even though she still had time left and the due date
for payment wasn't due yet.
They then sent her a letter and cancelled the account saying she would have
to go with the cingular pre pay (big rip off)
The letter arrived within a couple days of the text message. hmmm

Hello T-Mobile - new customer for you

at&t(SBC) is buying bellsouth, and will still be called at&t. Since they will own cingular, they will rebrand Cingular to at&t to have it more unified.

SBC(AT&T) already owns most of Cingular.
BellSouth owns the other half.

SBC was formed by the merger of baby bells Southwestern Bell and Pacific Telesis, which were spun off from AT&T (Ma Bell) in 1984.

SBC recently bought the former carcas of what was left of AT&T. They also bought another Baby Bell -- Ameritech.

Cingular merged with AT&T Wireless (which had already spun off from AT&T) last year.

Now AT&T is buying BellSouth, which is much more than just wireless.

So if you're keeping score at home, there were once SEVEN baby bells, now there are (soon to be) two: AT&T and Verizon (which also swallowed up MCI, a former competitor to the original Ma Bell monopoly).

At least it does for me.

I predict that our current administration will do nothing but sit idly and watch this transaction take place. Meanwhile, I predict that we will pay more for our wired and wireless plans under longer contracts and continue to get worse service in return.

Is it so much to ask? All I want is a clear call with no duplexing that doesn't get dropped. I don't care about taking videos or listening to music with my phone. Just give me clear reliable coverage at a decent price.

So much for the Sherman act. We are moving back to Standard Oil and AT&T

The teardrop is the most unfunny tatoo in existence, a symbol of a whole life of violence and sadness, and is really really sad on a baby.

Otherwise . . . Cingular actually offered me a deal on a GSM plan w/ free Nokia 6102 that is finally equal to my 29.99/mo deal on the TDMA plan I've had for about 3 years.
So I don't see the rates pushing up much currently.

I know those of us in the Mountain Time Zone don't get much respect, but Qwest is still around and they were one of the seven baby bells.

(Qwest does have some territory in the adjacent time zones too.)
