Mom passed away yesterday.

My mom has been very sick with congestive heart failure. She came down with pneumonia.

She was on assisted breathing for a couple of days. Her directives where to have any assistance removed.

I drove all night on Wednesday to get to Denver, CO to see her before she passed. They removed all support at 11am. She passed away at 11:10am. 73 years old.

She was my mother, my gluten free gourmet chef and my friend.

Sorry to hear that.

You mentioned she was a gluten-free gourmet. Did she also have Celiac disease?

My condolences as well.

The loss of a parent is very difficult and a bit sobering as well.
It's been seven years since I lost my father and it still hurts.
I'm lucky in that my mom is still going at 83 years old - but I don't take that for granted.

Again - sorry for your loss.

Many condolences. I lost my Mom to congestive heart failure at 84 years old a little over a year ago. Miss her greatly. Be sure to keep the memories alive and she will live forever in your heart.

My condolences as well. My mom passed away at 75 a little over 2 years ago. I only wish she'd lived long enough to see my son.

I'm very sorry to hear that MacArtist. It is always difficult to lose a family member - I lost an aunt recently at the age of 61 and it was quite painful since we are a close family.

So sorry to hear of your loss, but glad to know she was able to have you there and that she had been able determine the terms that would provide her with the most dignity though her passing.

My 69 y/o dad is struggling with Lymphoma chemo treatment and managing diabetes, and it is frequently more than he can handle. We are trying to walk that fine line between hoping for the best and being ready *with him* for the worst, should it come to that. Not easy.

My thoughts are with you.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. On the other hand, it is nice to hear your fond memories of her. I know so many folks who are on bad terms with their parents. Family is so important...and the one who brought you into the world is one of the most precious people.

I join your other friends on the forum and offer my condolences. Seems like an empty phrase, but I'm sure that those of us who have known you for a long time now just want to say something to ease the pain that I'm sure you are feeling.

It feels strange to me, knowing that your Mom was "only" 73, since I'll be 71 this month and my S/O, Mavis, whom I've talked about on the forum is 77. Maybe it's good to know that, in spite of a myriad of physical problems, we don't "feel" old, so I hope that your Mom was able to be happy in her "shell" until she left you.

Take solace in the fact that you were able to describe her as your friend. Many people have lost that dear connection with their parents, which is so sad to me.

Enjoy your memories of her and keep her close in your heart.

Condolences on your loss, MacArtist. To lose either a parent or a friend is very difficult. When the person is one and the same, it makes it that much tougher. Take care of yourself. We've all been there or will be there.
