Dell has a Core Duo laptop of their own called the Inspiron™ E1505.

Configure it similarly to the MacBook Pro 2.0GHz and it comes in at $2408 BUT... That doesn't include a built-in iSight camera, back-lit keyboard, and X1600 GPU. (It uses the same (read slower) Intel GMA950 GPU as Apple's new Mac mini.)

i've been saying it for years...macs are cheaper.

Long term totally - never an argument.. and so cool to see Apples to apples compare in terms of processor now showing that in initial buy too.

Configure an E1505 Core Duo similarly to the new base Mac mini Core Duo (except for the optical audio) and it is only $5 more. It is a low end laptop, you have to compare it to whatever releases to replace the iBook.
